The Strokes, Eddie Vedder and Josh Homme cover Marvin Gaye

Three-disc charity album features remix of a Marvin Gaye classic.

In an exceptional display of star power, more than a hundred artists have come together for Live from Nowhere Near You, Volume II, an ambitious new benefit album supporting Portland’s homeless youth.

As a follow-up to 2003’s Nowhere Near You, Volume I, this project combines both street musicians and consummate rock stars. The triple album will include rare and exclusive tracks like Mercy, Mercy Me – the classic song by the legendary Marvin Gaye – re-imagined by The Strokes with Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme.

Die-hard Strokes fans may remember Mercy, Mercy Me as a B-side to the band’s previously released single, You Only Live Once. Now, when placed alongside the many inventive collaborations on this landmark concept-album, the older track takes on special new meaning.

Modest Mouse, Daniel Johnson, The Presidents of the United States of America, Wilco, The Dandy Warhols, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Elliot Smith are among the myriad of artists to contribute.

Live from Nowhere Near You, Volume II will be released July 19 and can be pre-ordered now.
