The Strokes just aren’t ready

Fans will have to wait a little bit longer for a new album.

The Strokes have not released new material since First Impressions of Earth came out four years ago. They keep promising fans a new album but have pushed the release date back again and again. Now the new album won’t be available until March 2011.

Frontman Julian Casablancas told BBC 6 Music the fourth studio album is "half-way done." He explained: "Right now we’re just trying to finish this record. Let’s see how [it] goes. Let’s make sure no one tries to stab me or something."

Casablancas has been pursuing a solo career and many speculate this is causing the hold up. He talked about what music he wants to do solo and what he thinks about doing with The Strokes. Casablancas commented: "If I have an idea for something that I know head to toe, I’ll probably do it on my own, and when I have kind of looser stuff I’ll probably bring it to the Strokes."

The Strokes were leaders of the garage rock revival in the early 2000s. Their debut album Is This It was named Album of the Decade by NME.
