The Toyota Mark X Has the X-Factor

The Toyota Mark X has moved onto its second generation in Japan, and could next be bound for the world market.

First introduced in 2004, the Mark X is set to make a comeback at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The sedan, based on the same platform as the Lexus GS, also carries the GS engine. Two V6’s will be proposed; one being a 2.5-litre 203 hp motor, and the other, a 3.5-litre with 315 hp.

In both cases, the power of the engine is distributed to the four wheels via an automatic transmission with paddle shifters at the steering wheel.

The interior is a notch below what Lexus offers, and does not compete in the same luxury car tier, though overall, the finish and the equipment are still attractive.

Competing against the ranks of the Chrysler 300 or the Acura TSX, the Toyota Mark X could find its place in North America. In Japan, prices run from 27 000 to 38 000 CAD.
