Tom Hanks Defends His Film

Tom Hanks is defending his film, Angels & Demons, from the criticism of Catholic authorities.

Similar to feedback after the release of The Da Vinci Code in 2006, the film Angels & Demons has become the target of criticism of religious authorities, who say that the film attacks the foundation of their beliefs and faith.

In the film adaptation of Dan Brown’s novel, Tom Hanks resumes his role as religious symbols expert, Robert Langdon. He investigates the murder of a physicist and an act of terrorism against the Vatican.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Tom Hanks was baffled by the criticism received, even before the film’s release. "People will see there’s nothing sacrilegious about it at all. Yes, we had a few things go on that are completely fictionalized; but there’s no reason to have a big hurly-burly over what is essentially a whodunit (murder mystery)," said the actor.

Angels & Demons opens in theatres on May 15.
