Too many hamburgers increases the risk of childhood asthma

Children who eat more than three hamburgers a week are more asthmatic.

Children in rich countries are more likely to develop asthma or wheezing if they eat three hamburgers per week or more.

The journal Thorax reports this is the word from a team of scientists at the University of Ulm in Germany.

The parents of 50,000 children from twenty countries answered a questionnaire about their kids’ eating habits and whether they had experienced asthma or wheezing. 30,000 of these children were also tested for allergies.

It notes that food does not affect allergen but plays a role in asthma attacks and wheezing.

A high intake of fruit provides good protection, both among children in rich and poor countries. A diet rich in fish protects the children in rich countries, while many cooked green vegetables protect children from poor countries.
