Top 20 albums of 2011

MTV reveals top picks of 2011.

This was a busy year in music with many popular artists releasing new albums, including Adele, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and a collaborative effort from Jay-Z and Kanye West.

MTV unveiled its list of the top albums of the year, giving the top spot to San Francisco indie rock band Girls and their album Father, Son, Holy Ghost, a collection of retro rock songs influenced by musicians like Elvis Costello, Pink Floyd and The Beach Boys.

The second album on the list is U.K. pop star Adele’s 21, also bestselling album of the year with hit songs Rolling in the Deep and Someone Like You. Canadian rapper Drake takes third place with his album Take Care.

American rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West’s collaborative album Watch the Throne is in eighth place. Lady Gaga’s Born This Way rounds out the the top 10, while Rihanna’s Talk That Talk, launched only weeks ago, is already in 18th place.

Expectant mom, Beyoncé and her album 4, released last summer, concludes the list at number 20.
