Top-5: John Gibson, a candidate for stop of the year

18 teams were in action last night in the NHL.

Here are the results and highlights:

1. John Gibson makes save of the year

Last night, the Ducks and Penguins squared off in a crazy game. First, John Gibson robbed Sidney Crosby.

A candidate for save of the year.

The Ducks’ goaltender did not finish the game, however. He injured his upper body.

The Penguins goalie also did well. Tristan Jarry Bryan Rust robbed the Ducks of a great save, too.

Anaheim was then robbed of another goal, this time by the referees.

They waved the goal off due to obstruction of the goalie.

The Ducks’ head coach didn’t like it at all. As a result, he was ejected from the game. It’s rare to see that in the NHL…

This crazy match was finally decided in the final moments.

2. An alligator in Philadelphia

Do you know the story of Wally the alligator? He’s a very friendly domestic alligator. He can even swim with children.

He’s an alligator(!).

His owner considers him a support animal and takes him everywhere.

A few days ago, he tried to take him inside Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia Phillies stadium), but was refused access.

Yesterday, Wally and his owner were at the Wells Fargo Center.

Greety and Wally had a lot of fun together.

The Flyers lost the game 3-2 to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Nicolas Deslauriers put on a show with a fine individual sequence.

It was the first point of his 2023-2024 season.

3. Blake Wheeler honoured in Winnipeg

From 2010-2011 through the 2022-2023 season, Blake Wheeler was a member of the Winnipeg Jets (and Thrashers).

So, for the first time in nearly 14 years, the newest member of the New York Rangers was playing for a team other than the Winnipeg franchise. Yesterday, he was back where he’s had all his success, and he was obviously honored.

In 897 games with Winnipeg and Atlanta, the former team captain collected 812 points. He was one of the franchise’s great players.

Last night, he didn’t collect a point, but he and his team defeated the Jets 3-2 in overtime.

After three straight wins, Winnipeg has lost its last two games in overtime.

On the winning side, Artemi Panarin picked up a point in his ninth straight game.

4. Charlie McAvoy and his hit on Oliver Ekman-Larsson

Last night, the Panthers tried to inflict their first regular season setback on the Boston Bruins.

But Boston rallied to win 3-2 in overtime.

It wasn’t the win I remembered, however, but Charlie McAvoy’s check on Oliver Ekman-Larsson. The Bruins defenseman was ejected and should be suspended.

But for how long?

That wasn’t the only highlight of the 73.

The right-hander, moments earlier, scored a beautiful goal to tie the game.

In the end, it was Pavel Zacha who gave the home side victory.

Boston is still unbeaten in the regular season. So is Vegas, for that matter.

5. Mike Babcock behind the bench at the Stars game

It’s Halloween tonight, but many costumes were seen around the league last night.

The best costume went to a fan sitting behind the Blue Jackets bench.

He was dressed as none other than Mike Babcock. Remember, Columbus is Babcock’s old team. He chose his match well, then.

Well done!

As for the game itself, the home side prevailed by a score of 5-3.

In the win, five Stars players – Jamie Benn, Jason Robertson, Evgenii Dadonov, Roope Hintz and Wyatt Johnston – picked up two points. Let’s hope you had one of these players in your pool.
