Top-5: the Habs can say a big thank you to the Maple Leafs

There were 13 games in the National hockey league yesterday, with several teams in the midst of a playoff race in action.

It was therefore worth watching closely, and several highlights caught the attention.

Here is a summary of yesterday’s day in the NHL.

1. The Maple Leafs did the Habs a favor by crushing the Blue Jackets

It’s very rare that I’ll say that, maybe even the first time, but yesterday, I was rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

We all wanted to see them win in regulation time against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and that’s exactly what they did, winning 5-0.

They didn’t disappoint us, which often happens with Leafs fans.

In short, by beating the Blue Jackets, the Maple Leafs allowed the habs to build a six-point lead over the Ohio team, which is starting to be a comfortable cushion, even if the Blue Jackets have a game in hand over the habs.

Add to that the Rangers’ defeat earlier in the afternoon (thanks to the Devils), and that puts the Habs in a good position.

The habs now have a four-point lead over the Rangers, and a six-point lead over the Blue Jackets.

In short, a big thank you to the Maple Leafs, as we wish them the best in the playoffs.

Obviously not.

2. 12th consecutive win for the Blues

The Blues are simply unstoppable, and seriously, if I were a Golden Knights fan from Vegas, who risk facing the Blues in the first round, I would be scared.

Last night, while they faced the Colorado Avalanche, a power in the NHL, the Blues found a way to escape with a 5-4 win.

Québécois rookie Zack Bolduc also scored two goals.

He now has 18 goals and 15 assists for a total of 33 points in 68 games.

Everyone is contributing to the Blues’ success.

Even if the Blues had a hard time last night when they led 4-0, before seeing the Avalanche come back to 4-3, they found a way to win.

In short, they are impressive, and I look forward to seeing them in the playoffs.

3. First NHL goal for Justin Robidas

While Stéphane Robidas was taking care of the Montreal Canadiens’ defense at the Centre Bell yesterday, his son Justin scored his first NHL goal.

In fact, in the last minute of the game against the Bruins, Robidas scored the only goal for the Carolina Hurricanes in a losing cause.

The habs’ assistant coach must have been very proud of his son.

In two games, Robidas has one goal and one assist.

4. The Bruins are eliminated from the playoffs for the first time since 2016

In the same game, the team that won was the Boston Bruins, who crushed the Carolina Hurricanes 5-1.

David Pastrnak had five points, including a hat-trick.

However, despite the big win, the Boston Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs, something that hadn’t happened since 2016.

There will therefore be playoffs without the Bruins in the East for the first time in nine years.

5. Hat-tricks for Evgenii Dadonov and Sidney Crosby

We had a crazy game on the side of Dallas, as the Pittsburgh Penguins surprised the Stars, winning 5-3.

The Stars are chasing the Winnipeg Jets for first place in the conference and the league, so this loss will hurt them.

Sidney Crosby did damage to the Stars with his 14th career hat-trick.

On the Stars’ side, former habs player Evgenii Dadonov also scored a hat-trick.
