Town attacked by swarm of ladybirds

A small town in Romania has been taken over by a swarm of ladybirds due to the mild winter temperatures.

A town has been taken over by a swarm of ladybirds.

Residents in the town of Lipova, western Romania, claim there are so many of the bugs that they’re like a ”living carpet” which have to be shovelled out of their homes.

The insects descended on the town overnight and have forced people to seal up their properties in a bid to keep them out.

According to The Sun newspaper, resident Arina Deca said: ”No matter what you do they keep coming, I had my window open for a few minutes and when I closed it they were like a living carpet.

”I swept up tens of thousands of them with a broom and shovel and took them outside but more and more arrive all the time.”

The increase is said to have been caused by a rise in the number of aphids, the insect’s staple diet, because of the mild weather.
