Philip Seymour Hoffman sees his life slip between his fingers in Synecdoche, New York.

The first trailer for the dramatic comedy Synecdoche, New York, directed and masterminded by Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), can now be seen on the Internet.

In Schenectady, New York, Caden Cotard, a theatre director, lives through a dark period in his life. His wife Adele leaves him to pursue her painting career in Berlin, and takes their daughter Olivia with her. Cotard tries to start his life again with another woman, however the romance ends as quickly as it began. Additionally, a mysterious disease inhibits his bodily functions. Anxiously, he moves his theatre into a warehouse and decides with the actors to put on a play to celebrate each day of life.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Dianne Wiest, Samantha Morton, Catherine Keener, Michelle Williams, Emily Watson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hope Davis and Tom Noonan make up the cast.

The film will be opening in select theatres on October 24.
