Trial date set for Guns N’ Roses vs Guitar Hero

Frontman Axl Rose filed $20 million lawsuit again video game company.

Producers of the popular video game series Guitar Hero are probably regretting not having respected the terms of a deal with Guns N ‘Roses. A Los Angeles judge has given frontman Axl Rose permission to move forward in his $20 million lawsuit against the manufacturer, reports Starpulse.

Activision Blizzard, responsible for marketing Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, denies that there is any basis for legal proceedings. However, Axl Rose states that their agreement to use the Guns N’ Roses hit Welcome to the Jungle, stipulated that it could not be marketed in conjunction with any images of the band’s former guitarist, Slash, who left the band in 1995.

Rose alleges that the company circumvented the contract by developing an animated character that represents Slash, and is clearly depicted on the cover artwork for the game.

In considering the allegations, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charles Palmer allowed the singer’s lawsuit, filed last year, to continue through the courts, and the trial was set for January 23, 2012.

Guns N ‘Roses, formed in the mid-1980s and led by singer Axl Rose, quickly became a huge hit around the globe. The band’s 1987 debut album, Appetite for Destruction, was certified 18 times platinum in the United States.
