Tulisa stole Young from another pop star

Tulisa stole her debut solo single, ‘Young’, from another pop star.

Tulisa stole ‘Young’ from another pop star.

The singer’s first solo record was originally developed by her N-Dubz bandmate Fazer and producer Ali Tennant with another artist in mind, but as soon as she heard it, she knew it was perfect for her.

She told BBC Radio 2: "With ‘Young’, it was one of those ones I heard in the studio, produced by one of my very good friends with Fazer, who I was in N-Dubz with.

"I heard it, and I was like, ‘I have to have this song. And it was meant for someone else, I’m not going to say who it was meant for, who they pictured it for, but I nicked it.

"They don’t know I’ve nicked it! They didn’t even get a chance to pitch it to the [other singer], they were preparing it, it wasn’t even finished and I was like, ‘I’m having that song, give it to me.’"

Tulisa added she has had a great deal of input into the record, writing around "70 per cent" of it.

Since N-Dubz – which also features Dappy – have been on hiatus, she also said it has given her the opportunity to develop her personal style.

She added: "Before, I had to blend all the time with two lads that were very urban and wearing tracksuits on a day to day basis, and if I came out in a luxurious gown, I would look a bit silly. So I never had chance to enjoy fashion or look at how I wanted to style myself, whereas now I am by myself, I got some time to find out who I really am."
