Tyler Toffoli: Keep an eye on the Rangers this summer

Tyler Toffoli is coming off two consecutive 30+ goal seasons.

It helps his cause that this summer, the veteran is set to sign a new contract.

At 32, this is likely to be his last opportunity to fetch a big annual fee… But the player is also looking to win another Stanley Cup, having lifted it with the Kings in the 2013-2014 season.

There will be interest in his services all over the league, and there’s no doubt about it.

After all, we’re talking about an established veteran who can put it in the back of the net, and players like that are a great value for a club looking to compete.

That said, Peter Baugh (The Athletic) wondered in a recent article whether there’s a fit for Toffoli in New York with the Rangers.

The journalist believes that Chris Drury (GM) inquired about his availability at the last trade deadline and that the Rangers GM might find a way to lure him to the Big Apple this summer.

Especially since, in New York, Toffoli would have the opportunity to reunite with Jonathan Quick, with whom he won in Los Angeles ten years ago.

Peter Baugh is talking about a four-year deal at $5 million per season:

Yesterday, the Rangers placed Barclay Goodrow and his $3,641,667 annual salary on the waivers.

This gives us reason to believe that Chris Drury is ready to add another piece to his roster.

If the Rangers can get their hands on Tyler Toffoli, their offensive lineup will be (very) dangerous.

At least, when you look at the Blue Shirts ‘ attack on paper and add a scorer like Toffoli to the line-up…

You can see how complete they’d be :

The bottom line is that the Rangers may have to keep an eye on Tyler Toffoli this summer.

Chris Drury has his work cut out for him, however, because he only has four (NHL) defensemen under contract for next season.

He’ll have (roughly) $12 million to play with, but it could get complicated if he doesn’t make a deal to free up some salary.

In Overtime

– Ty Dellandrea goes to San Jose.

– That’s fair enough.

– What will the Ducks do this summer?

– The images are crazy.

– Great win.
