U.S. travel to Cuba on the rise

Long banned from visiting Fidel Castro’s country, Americans are back on the beaches of Cuba.

Wherever you travel, it is not uncommon to see American tourists. However, one small country managed to resist the presence of American tourists for nearly 50 years: Cuba.

Since Uncle Sam’s famous embargo in the early 1960s, U.S. citizens have not been allowed to travel to Cuba.

Recently, after several meetings between tourism authorities of both countries and with the arrival of Raul Castro as head of the country, replacing his cancer-stricken brother Fidel, Americans can once again include the beautiful beaches of Cuba on their holiday travel itinerary.

But there is one downside: the Americans who are allowed to travel to Cuba must be of Cuban descent. To circumvent the U.S. travel ban, many Americans travel through Mexico or the Bahamas to get to the small island.
