U2 Defends Massive Stage

The band U2 has responded to recent criticism over their tour stage.

Some people are disappointed with the Irish group’s huge financial investment in their stage for the current U2 tour.

David Byrne of the Talking Heads wrote on his blog, "$40 million to build the stage, and, having done the math, we estimate 200 semi trucks crisscrossing Europe for the duration."  Byrne added, "It could be professional envy speaking here, but it sure looks like, well, overkill, and just a wee bit out of balance given all the starving people in Africa."

When asked about the criticism, U2 guitarist, The Edge, said, " I think anybody that’s touring is going to have a carbon footprint.  We’d love to have some alternative to big trucks bringing the stuff around but there isn’t one."
