U2 Gets Honoured in New York City
At a ceremony hosted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, 53rd Street was temporarily renamed U2 Way.
The Irish band was in the Big Apple promoting their latest album, No Line On The Horizon.
The band’s singer, Bono, told the crowd, "The Beatles had Penny Lane, Elvis lived on the end of Lonely Street. We’re here somewhere between 10th Avenue and funky, funky Broadway, somewhere south of Duke Ellington Way and north of Joey Ramone Place."
"We find ourselves where the streets have no name," added Bono, making reference to one of U2’s classics from the Joshua Tree album.
U2 performed for five nights in a row on The Late Show with David Letterman, which is aired from the Ed Sullivan Theatre on 53rd Street.
