U2 Plans 3-D Film
The project will be directed by Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington, and is expected to be in theatres next summer or fall. U2 may be the first musicians to offer a 3-D concert film for cinema.
For the film, Owens and Pellington have gathered 700 hours of footage during the group’s tour in 7 cities in South America last February and March.
3ality Digital Entertainment, the project’s producers, had placed a number of 3-D cameras on the scene.
The film will be presented via the Real-D technology which already exists in theatres across America. The film Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3-D, currently in theatres, uses the same technology.
