The Internet site for BBC has confirmed that Campbell has decided to leave the Birmingham band to pursue a solo career.
Campbell will make a few final performances with his band mates at a series of concerts scheduled for next month in Australia and Uganda.
Despite the news of the singer’s departure, a spokesperson for UB40 doesn’t believe that the change will mean the end of the band, which continues to perform live and record music. At the moment, a replacement singer has not been named.
UB40’s disc, 24/7, will mark the final album for UB40 with Ali Campbell.
