UGG does high fashion

UGG Australia launches new luxury line of footwear and handbags.

Footwear retailer UGG Australia is launching a new luxury line of upscale shoes, boots and handbags, reports Coco Perez.

The new UGG Collection will be available in stores beginning September 1, and the look of the 30-piece collection is quite a departure from the label’s iconic oversized sheepskin boot.

Constructed of leather and signature sheepskin, the luxury footwear is available in a number of styles: knee-high boots with high heels; thigh-high sheepskin boots with wedge heels; ankle-high boots in leather, fastened with buckles or laces, or available in a slip on.

"We’re hoping to get a lot of new UGG-love out of this," explained vice president of products Leah Larson. "It’s very UGG, it still has our DNA – there’s the sheepskin, there’s the comfort, the quality, the luxury – it’s very much UGG, it’s just taking it up a notch."

Along with taking the designs up a notch, prices have also gone up: the high-end line is expected to retail between $495 to $1,195 for footwear and $650 to $1,950 for the handbags.

Earlier this year, the company also expanded their menswear line with a special collection from NFL star Tom Brady.

"Given the global phenomenon that is UGG Australia’s women’s business, it’s easy to forget that we started as a men’s brand among California surfers," explained company president Constance X. Rishwain in a statement. "Collaborating with Tom gives us the unique opportunity to celebrate the heritage of the brand while bringing new energy to our men’s product and marketing."
