Unique beaches of the world

Unusual beach destinations around the world.

If you’re like most people, the beach is a favorite destination to unwind and relax. Although not all of these unusual beaches are swimmable, according to Lonely Planet, they are each unique in their own special way.

Bowling Ball Beach in California features round boulders shaped just like – you guessed it – bowling balls. The unique sight features hundreds of boulders of similar round shape and size just sitting on the beach.

In the Bahamas, the pink sand beach of Harbour Island is actually a mix of coral particles and sand that gives the beach its pinkish hue.

Glass Beach in California is made up of trash tossed off the cliffs by generations of humans, then tumbled smooth by the sea, to create beautiful worn colored pieces of glass.

Prince William Sound in Alaska has beautiful tidewater glaciers, with black sand beach framed by green hills and blue ice. The Papakolea Beach in Hawaii has a distinct green tint from olivine crystals deposited on the beach by a volcanic explosion about 10,000 years ago.

Additional unique beaches include Chandipur in India, Perissa in Greece, the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland, Rainbow Beach in Australia, and Vik Beach in Iceland.
