Versace welcomes new kidswear line

Young Versace is the latest designer label for children.

Glamorous Italian fashion house Versace is launching a new line of children’s wear under the name Young Versace, reports Female First.

The upscale new line – both elegant and playful – will be introduced as part of the spring-summer 2012 collection, and include designer fashions for children – from newborns to kids up to age 12.

"This is a high-end, glamorous and colorful collection in line with the brand’s essence, with a touch of rock ‘n’ roll," said CEO Gian Giacomo Ferraris.

"Donatella Versace strongly supports and is behind the project, we have a state-of-the-art technological platform and supply chain, and we directly manage our core business."

Launching at an international children’s wear exhibition in Florence in spring 2012, the collection will include many of the label’s iconic symbols, including the Greek frieze and the Medusa, although these will have a more ironic and youthful twist.

Versace discontinued its earlier kids’ line in 2004, and since then many luxury labels have been moving into the world of children’s fashion, including Fendi, Gucci, Stella McCartney, Marni, Dior and Chloe.

French fashion house Lanvin also announced that they will be adding a children’s line to their spring-summer 2012 collection.

"It’s a way to translate the universe of Lanvin ready-to-wear to the world of kids," explains executive vice-president Thierry Andretta. "We really want to stay in the luxury world."
