‘Vice’ Magazine buys style bible ‘i-D’

(Relaxnews) – Youth culture magazine Vice has acquired style magazine i-D and announced the upcoming launch of a video style channel.

Vice and i-D are combining forces to create the video-driven Online Fashion Channel and to expand i-D‘s print circulation.

According to a statement released in New York on December 18, "the two outlets already share a dedication to street, youth, and DIY culture, and VICE will draw on its own transformation from a punk zine into a digital powerhouse to build i-D’s online footprint…"

Launched in 1980 by designer and former Vogue art director Terry Jones, London based i-D has grown to become a mainstay of the fashion industry, with decades’ worth of famous stars performing the traditional winking pose on the cover. Jones and his wife Tricia will retain their shareholding in the magazine in the new deal.

"VICE is so excited to work with the guys at i-D magazine, one of the only fashion publications in the world we actually respect. We know digital, i-D knows style, and together we’re going to give the world the gift of eye-catching, mind-blowing video-driven fashion content," said Andrew Creighton, President of Vice.

The deal is intended to add some high-fashion know-how to the Vice brand, as well as expanding the global print circulation of i-D, which is currently produced in the UK. There is no date yet set for the highly anticipated launch of the new video channel.

Founded in 1994 as Voice of Montreal, Vice magazine moved to New York City in 1999 and has expanded across the globe. Currently operating in 34 countries, vice.com has grown to become the world’s premier original online video destination. The company contributes material to the HBO and MTV networks, as well as operating a publishing wing and a music label.
