Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams hit the road

On the Road boasts an all-star cast and a Montreal connection.

Jack Kerouac’s classic road trip novel, On the Road, is getting the star treatment in this film adaptation by Francis Ford Coppola.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker has been working for 30 years to get this project off the ground. Now it looks like he has assembled the ideal cast to make a hit movie.

Viggo Mortensen has signed on to play Old Bull Lee, a character based on William Burroughs in the semi-autobiographical novel.

Amy Adams will play "the emotionally damaged junkie mother of two children and the wife of Old Bull Lee."

Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) plays the lead role and Sam Riley (Control) will play his travelling companion. Kristen Stewart and Kirsten Dunst are also part of the cast.

The script was written by Jose Rivera and the film will be directed by Walter Salles (Behind the Sun).

Shooting will take place in Montreal, the United States and Mexico. Francis Ford Coppola and Rebecca Yeldham are producing.
