Fifty years in the future, the sun is dying, as is mankind. Our only hope is a space ship with a crew of eight men and women. They carry a device which will bring new life into the sun. However, during the course of their voyage, without radio contact with earth, their mission begins to take a new turn. There is an accident, a fatal mistake, and a distress call from a space ship that disappeared seven years earlier. The team must now fight for their lives as well as their sanity.
In theatres on March 16, 2007, the film marks the reunion of Boyle with writer Alex Garland and producer Andrew Macdonald, who worked together on the film 28 Days Later.
