Water and rest still best way to fight the flu

Plenty of fluids and rest key to fighting the seasonal flu.

Drinking plenty of water remains one of the best treatments for the flu, reports the New York Times. Water helps to replace fluids lost during a fever, which the body needs to cleanse the system and reduce toxins.

It seems old-fashioned advice is still the best. Drinking lots of fluids, and getting plenty of rest is still one of the best ways to treat the flu.

Influenza, commonly called the flu, is an infectious disease caused by a virus. While some symptoms are similar to the common cold, the flu is caused by a different virus and is generally more severe. It can cause muscle pain, fever, chills and sore throat, and in more serious cases, develop into full-blown pneumonia.

When sick with the flu, a good diet is important in helping to bolster the immune system and fight off the virus. However, it’s wise to avoid sugar, milk and meat while you’re sick since these can increase mucus production, something already in abundance during the illness.
