Welcome to hurricane season

Igor finished and Karl arrived while Julia is still swirling in the Atlantic.

September is always an unpredictable month in the area encompassing the Caribbean and Florida. People living in this region often find themselves in the direct path of intense storms when hurricane season peaks as fall approaches.

The sun’s rays warm the Atlantic Ocean throughout the summer months. The resulting increase in water temperature helps give birth to hurricanes which head for land and provoke panic amongst those in their wake.

As Hurricane Igor loses strength and dies off, two other storms, Hurricane Karl and Hurricane Julia, are alive and well in Caribbean waters.

Mexico is the target of Hurricane Karl. Authorities have already issued alerts for some areas, including the popular Mayan Riviera tourist destination. It is expected to lose strength over the country but could pick up again in the Gulf of Mexico where the water is very warm at this time of year.

As for Hurricane Julia, she’s in the middle of the Atlantic and has a more northern path in her sights. She is being egged on by above-normal temperatures this summer that warmed the water so much that sharks were sighted off the coast of Cape Cod.
