Yesterday (October 4), travel website TripAdvisor announced the winners of its 2011 Travelers’ Choice food and wine destinations awards.
Seventy outstanding destinations across the globe have been honored in the inaugural awards, with top 10 lists named for the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Central and South America, South Pacific, and India.
Based on the opinions of millions of travelers around the world, the top three places in Europe were Florence, Paris, and Rome. The Italian cities of Sorrento, Siena, and Bologna also take fourth, sixth and seventh place respectively.
In Canada, first place was awarded to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a region known for its wineries, followed by the French-Canadian city of Montreal, and, then the west coast city of Vancouver.
New Orleans, Louisiana landed at the top of the U.S. chart, followed by Chicago and Charleston.
