White Stripes and Moby Released from Label

The group the White Stripes and singer Moby are without a record label.

Their label, VR, is closing their doors, leaving the White Stripes and Moby free to work with other record labels.

Last Friday V2 laid off its staff, leaving 35 people without jobs.  The company now plans to operate as a catalog label, and its parent company, Sheridan Square, plans to focus on digital distribution.

The White Stripes have released five albums during their career, having the most success in 2003 with Elephant.  Their single, Seven Nation Army earned them a Grammy for best rock song.

New York singer Moby released his popular disc Play in 1999.  More than 10 million copies were sold around the world.
