Will.i.am reveals the secrets of success

Black Eyed Peas singer listens to Micheal Jackson for inspiration.

Want to have a number one song on the charts? Well, according to will.i.am, leader of the Black Eyed Peas, it’s easier than you think.

During an MTV episode of The Seven, will.i.am, who shared the spotlight with rising star, Nicki Minaj, revealed his secret to success.

“We call it ‘A-B-ing.’ Anything you make, there’s nothing new under the sun. So there’s always an ‘A and B’ to whatever your approach is," he said. "So if you want a song to be a big number one smash, then you have to play a Michael Jackson song while you’re making your song.”

Will.i.am explains that by comparing the work to an artist as innovative as Jackson, a producer will immediately know if the song has that elusive “It” factor.

Minaj, who recently collaborated with him in the studio for the song, Check It Out, says will.i.am’s contribution was on an entirely different level than other producers.
