On November 26, 2010, country and western star Willie Nelson was charged with marijuana possession after a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint search found six ounces on his tour bus. The singer posted a $2,500 bond and was released four hours later.

The prosecutor in the case is willing to let Nelson off with a $100 fine if he sings Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain in the courtroom, according to TMZ.

Although the song would count as community service, it’s ultimately up to the judge to decide Nelson’s punishment. If convicted, the Farm Aid co-founder could face up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

"Tax it, regulate it and legalize it," Nelson, 77, told CelebStoner.com following his arrest. "And stop the border wars over drugs. Why should the drug lords make all the money? Thousands of lives will be saved."

The Crazy songwriter was previously arrested in 2005 and 2006 for drug possession, and this latest arrest has only fueled his fight to legalize marijuana.

"I don’t drink anymore. That was always my biggest problem. I never did cocaine or any of those things. Alcohol was always my enemy, for as far back as I can remember. When I quit drinking and quit smoking cigarettes, a lot of my problems went away."

Nelson is a co-chair of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML) advisory board, and has worked for years for marijuana legalization.

Recently, the singer-songwriter formed a Facebook page called Willie Nelson’s TeaPot Party.
