Wilson Pickett Dies at Age 64

American singer Wilson Pickett died Thursday at the age of 64.

The soul singer who gave us In the Midnight Hour and Mustang Sally, among others, died after a heart attack.  He was taken to a hospital near his home in Virginia, but the medical staff was unable to save his life.

The singer’s agent confirmed that he had not been well since 2005, when he stopped making public appearances.

Wilson Pickett was born in Alabama.  In 1965, he signed a contract with Atlantic Records and had his first success with In the Midnight Hour.  Pickett was entered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
