Woody Allen announces cast of next movie

Ellen Page, Jesse Eisenberg, Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin confirmed.

Film director and world-class worrywart Woody Allen is assembling one of his typically eclectic casts for his next movie which is shooting in Rome this summer, reports the Hollywood Reporter.

Young stars Ellen Page, 24, (Inception, Juno) and Jesse Eisenberg, 27, (The Social Network, The Squid and the Whale) will be making their Woody Allen film debut, while Penelope Cruz and Alec Baldwin are returning for their second go-around with the comedic director.

Cruz, 36, won the best supporting actress Academy Award for her scene-stealing role as Maria Elena in 2008’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona directed by Allen, in which she co-starred with her now-husband, fellow Spaniard Javier Bardem.

Baldwin, 53, starred in 1990’s Alice with Allen’s partner at the time Mia Farrow playing the title character. In 1992, at the age of 56, Allen caused a scandal when he began a relationship with his 22-year-old stepdaughter – causing many of fans to become disillusioned with the filmmaker and his work.

As usual, Allen is tight-lipped about the film, although it’s rumored that Eisenberg has a leading role. His latest film Midnight in Paris will kick off the Cannes Film Festival on May 11.
