Word of an Amityville Remake

Studios are reportedly trying to bring a new version of the spook flick The Amityville Horror to the big screen.

According to Bloody Disgusting, The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are considering a remake of the film.

The original version, released in 1979, was directed by Stuart Rosenberg and starred James Brolin.

It seems that a director has already been attached to the new project, but producers are keeping the details under wraps. If speculation turns into reality, Amityville could be hitting the screens in 2010.

The story was inspired by real events in which a haunted house pushes a father to murder his wife and children.

The horror story became the subject of several film and television versions. The most recent version, which was directed by Andrew Douglas, came out in 2005 and starred Ryan Reynolds. It had a budget of 19 million dollars and earned 64.3 million at the American box office.

In 1982, the sequel called Amityville II: The Possession was released, but was not such a big hit.
