World’s biggest Ferris wheel coming to Las Vegas

Caesars Entertainment gets approval for 550-foot observation wheel.

Caesars Entertainment has been given the go-ahead to begin construction on the world’s largest Ferris wheel in Las Vegas, reports the Las Vegas Sun.

The $500 million construction project is set to begin this month, and upon completion, the structure will tower 550 feet over the Las Vegas skyline, outdoing the current record-holder – the Singapore Flyer – by just nine feet.

Dubbed the Linq project, the observation wheel and the accompanying 326,000 square foot restaurant-entertainment district will link the Imperial Palace and Flamingo resorts, which will also be given an overhaul as part of the project.

Construction is expected to take about 18 months, and once finished, the massive Ferris wheel will have 28 cabins, each capable of carrying 40 people.

Linq is the second giant Ferris wheel approved for the Las Vegas strip: a 500-foot observation wheel is currently being built on the site of the old Sahara hotel and casino, next to the Mandalay Bay resort.
