YSL’s New Vintage returns

New Vintage III adds sustainable modern take on classic designs.

For the third consecutive year, luxury fashion brand Yves Saint Laurent is launching a new collection from its environmentally-conscious New Vintage line, reports Vogue.fr.

The New Vintage III capsule collection repurposes unused fabrics from previous lines. It is the brainchild of the brand’s creative director, Stefano Pilati, who uses the idea of sustainable development and recycling to recreate some of the classic looks from the label’s history.

Metallic wide-leg trousers, a leopard print wraparound dress, and a velvet tuxedo jacket are among 180 of the pieces contained in this capsule collection, and harken back to Saint Laurent’s iconic 1970s look.

Already for sale in YSL flagship stores in London, Paris and New York, the collection is extremely limited, with each piece individually numbered.

The brand was founded in 1962 by the eponymous designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. During the ’60s and ’70s, Saint Laurent helped popularize the beatnik look. In 1966, he came out with his iconic Le Smoking suit, one of the most popular tuxedo-style suits for women.

The couture house closed in 2002, but the ready-to-wear line continues as part of the Gucci Group, under ownership of the multinational holding company PPR.

Pilati joined the brand in 2000, running its ready-to-wear line before taking over as creative director in 2002.
