According to Variety, Paramount is working on making the film into a musical. Kenny Ortega, who directed Efron in the series High School Musical, will be behind the camera.
Efron will play the role of Ren McCormack, the new rebel in town, originally played by Kevin Bacon.
Efron will soon be making his big-screen debut in the film Hairspray, which opens on July 20.
