According to The Hollywood Reporter, Galifianakis (The Hangover, G-Force) is in talks to be the voice of the well-known character in the upcoming film.
The project, which is part of the Shrek film franchise, will follow the adventures of the musketeer cat before he met Shrek and Donkey. Antonio Banderas will once again provide the cat’s voice.
Chris Miller, who co-produced and co-wrote Shrek the Third, will direct the project and also wrote the first draft of the script. Tom Wheeler will refine the story.
Puss in Boots is scheduled to be released on November 4, 2011, but Puss will be back for the fourth instalment of the franchise, Shrek Forever After, which hits theatres on May 21, 2010.
Zach Galifianakis will star opposite Justin Long and Michael Cera in the film Youth in Revolt, opening on January 8. The actor is currently filming Dinner for Schmucks, due out on July 23, 2010, and also The Hangover 2, scheduled to hit theatres on May 26, 2011.
