In trouble, Netflix cancels a project with Meghan and Harry
Netflix has just cancelled an animated series that had been ordered from Archewell Productions, the company founded by Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle.
This announcement comes just days after the streaming TV service was battered on the stock market following the release of disastrous results.
On April 19, Netflix announced it had lost 203,000 subscribers in the first quarter of the year, and its stock plunged 35%. This decline caused the company’s market capitalization to melt from about US$54 billion to just over $100 billion (US).
The series that Archewell Productions was to makewas supposed to revolve around a 12-year-old girl « on a journey of self-discovery » inspired by the legacy of famous women in history, Deadlinereveals.
Several other Netflix animated series projects have also been scrapped, due to the streaming giant’s financial woes, according to the magazine.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a long-term deal with Netflix shortly after moving to the United States from England. The deal would bring in 150 million (U.S. ) to the couple, who are set to deliver various television projects to Netflix.
