Jennifer Lawrence’s essay on inequality was inspired by her ‘Hunger Games’ character.

The 25-year-old actress – who penned a piece called ‘Why Do I Make Less Than My Male Co-Stars?’ detailing how she and Amy Adams were paid less than the male ‘American Hustle’ cast members – admitted portraying Katniss Everdeen gave her the strength to speak out on such a contentious issue.

She said:  »I don’t see how I couldn’t be inspired by this character, I mean I was so inspired by her when I read the books, it’s the reason I wanted to play her.

»So I think it would be impossible to go four years with this character and not be inspired by her. »

Jennifer has adored playing Katniss but admits she found her alter ego’s slow transformation to a revolutionary difficult to portray because she wanted her to always be a  »warrior ».

Speaking at a press conference for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2’, she said:  »I wanted her to be a warrior right away, I wanted her to want to be a leader.

»I had to keep my own personal emotions about her situation out of my performance. »

In her essay, Jennifer wrote about the pay gap between herself and  »people with d***s ».

She wrote:  »When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with d***s, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself. I failed as a negotiator because I gave up early.

»I didn’t want to keep fighting over millions of dollars that, frankly, due to two franchises, I don’t need. »
