Already, several stars have agreed to perform at the free concerts.  Madonna and Paul McCartney will play in Britain’s capital, while Stevie Wonder, Will Smith, Bon Jovi and Maroon 5 will perform in the U.S.  Duran Duran will be on stage in Rome, and A-ha will perform in Berlin.

In a press conference held Tuesday, Geldof said the event was "not for charity but political justice."

Geldof also told reporters in London that he had asked for the support of Pope Benedict XVI.  "I think he should turn up. It would be his first gig," he said.

The producer was behind the original Live Aid concert in 1985.  To date he has raised more than 73 million dollars to fight hunger in Africa.
