According to the New York Post, the director, who is bringing the story to the silver screen, wants the organisers of the games in Beijing, 2008, to have a minute of silence in honour of those who died.

At the Munich games, eight Palestinian terrorists took Israelian athletes hostage.  By the time all was done, 11 Israelis, 5 terrorists and one German police officer were dead.

A spokesperson for Spielberg explained, "His goal is to get the IOC to properly acknowledge the Munich massacre."

The Olympic games organisers, CIO, have already rejected an effort to create a ceremony to honour the fallen athletes, stating it would be "too political".
