According to People magazine, American actor Tom Selleck, 64, is reportedly on a mission to make a comeback as Magnum P.I.

Up until recently, producers were not thinking about casting the original TV star in their film.

On the show, Selleck played the famous character, Thomas Magnum, a private detective living in Hawaii.

The actor, who won an Emmy for his role in 1984 for best actor in a television series, starred as the heartthrob detective for 8 years.

The star still has high hopes that he will be getting the call. He says, "They haven’t called, they haven’t written. I keep hearing they’re developing one but I don’t know whether I’m going to be in it…"

Director Rawson Marshall Thurber (Dodgeball) will head the Universal project, which is expected out in 2011.
