Video of Alec Baldwin’s interrogation revealed
The images of the first meeting between the officers of the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office and Alec Baldwin shortly after the accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film Rust have just been made public.
On October 21, the actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot the director of photography Halyna Hutchins, who died of her injuries, and wounded the director Joel Souza.
In the first moments of his interrogation, Alec Baldwin asks a person in authority if he is accused of something, to which the person replies that he is not. It is then explained that this is just an interview.
The video shot in a small interview room and obtained by CNN shows Baldwin describing the weapons handling process and the usual steps taken on set.
« Do you think someone would do this deliberately? » an officer asks.
« I can’t imagine who would, » Baldwin quickly replies.
Despite the release of these initial images, the investigation is still ongoing in New Mexico.
« Several elements of the investigation remain open, including FBI firearms and ballistics analysis as well as DNA and fingerprint analysis, as well as the New Mexico Medical Examiner’s Office report of findings and analysis of Mr. Alec Baldwin’s phone data extracted by Suffolk County (New York) Sheriff’s investigators, » Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza said in a statement.
During questioning, Alec Baldwin told officers that the gunsmith in the movie gave him the gun directly. He also described that the gunsmith and his team helped him get a holster, a knife and a gun.
Speaking quickly, Alec Baldwin recalled the events.
« Bang! The gun went off – the first time, » Baldwin said of the weapon used in the rehearsal. « That was the first time we shot that shot, we were rehearsing for that shot. »
These revelations corroborate those already expressed by the actor. The day after the accident, the 64-year-old actor claimed his innocence indicating that he believed the gun was loaded with blanks.
While the investigation continues, Alec Baldwin is facing civil charges in this case. The latest is a lawsuit from the family of Halyna Hutchins, who says « many people are guilty, but Mr. Baldwin was the person holding the gun and without him, she would not be dead.
