Winners at The American Music Awards
The Black Eyed Peas led the nominations in three categories (Best Rap/Hip Hop, Best Soul/R&B, and Best Album for Monkey Business. The group was not able to accept the awards in person, since they are currently touring in Cuba.
The artists not present to accept their awards certainly did change the evening. Other big winners were also absent including Kelly Clarkson (2 awards), Red Hot Chili Peppers (2 award), and Eminem (1 award).
A singer who was absent, with three nominations, but no wins, was Mariah Carey. The 36-year-old singer experienced something similar in 1997 when she did not win for any of the six nominations.
Jimmy Kimmel, host of the American Music Awards poked fun at Kevin Federline, pseudo-rapper and former husband of Britney Spears.
