In a court filing from the Department of Justice, the Trump administration has said it’s too late to halt the demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing, calling statements in the lawsuit submitted against the White House “moot”. Trump began demolition of the East Wing in October as part of his project to build a 90,000-sq-ft ballroom at an estimated cost of $300m before his term ends in 2029. The court filings also claim the construction’s continuation is a matter of national security, but doesn’t list any reasons why.

According to the Royal Thai Navy, Thai forces “Launched a military operation to reclaim Thai sovereign territory. The sovereign territory in question is the region of Trat, the southernmost province on mainland Thailand. According to the Royal Thai Navy, Cambodia conducted attacks on Thai military personnel in Trat, and Thailand responded.

The US has surrounded Venezuela

U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered a “total and complete blockade” of all U.S.-sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela, adding pressure to Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s government. The order from Trump comes after weeks of escalating military tension in the Caribbean Sea, and four months of US air strikes on vessels off the coast of Venezuela. The US government claims to be fighting ‘narcoterrorism’.

Canada announced new ‘fast track’ system for permanent residency for 5,000 foreign doctors

While more than 6 million Canadians live without a family doctor, the government of Canada is finally making strides to increase the number of physicians in Canada. Ottawa announced a new “express entry” category for foreign-trained physicians in an effort to address health workforce challenges in Canada. Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Lena Metlege Diab said in a press conference, “We’ve seen the strain in our emergency rooms, we hear it from families waiting for a doctor, and we feel it from the front-line staff who are stretched thin. We’ve heard a clear message from patients, provinces and the medical community, we need more hands on deck,”

Trump threatens ‘severe tariffs’ on Canadian fertilizer in attempt to prop up American farmers

American farmers are struggling under Donald Trump, and the American president is now turning back to Canada as a means to a financial end. Trump claimed during a roundtable in Washington on Monday that Canadian fertilizer being exported south of the border could be hit with significant levies in the future as he attempts to aid American farmers who have been negatively impacted by months of trade uncertainty created by Trump. During the roundtable, Trump also announced a $12-billion aid package for farmers.

According to the US, “This relief will provide much-needed certainty to farmers as they get this year’s harvest to market and look ahead to next year’s crops, and it’ll help them continue their efforts to lower food prices for American families,”
