1,000 FBI agents mobilized to check whether Trump’s name was in the Epstein files

"What happened to the records mentioning President Trump once they were flagged?"

Since Donald Trump's arrival in the White House in January 2025, and the appointment of his close allies to key positions, notably within the DOJ and FBI, his administration has reportedly instructed the FBI to review the entire Jeffrey Epstein files for any mention of the president.

Illinois Democratic Senator Richard Durbin sent letters to the Justice Department and FBI, including Pam Bondi, Kash Patel and Dan Bongino.

In it, Durbin asks who gave the order last March to mobilize 1,000 FBI agents on a special mission to review all the agency's files linked to Jeffrey Epstein, and to identify any document mentioning the name of Donald Trump, a former close associate of Epstein.

The senator seems to question the true motivations behind this vast FBI operation, ordered by the Trump administration, few details of which have been made public.

In particular, he asks, "Who made the decision to reassign hundreds of New York Field Office personnel to this March review of Epstein-related records?", then: "Why were staff asked to report documents in which President Trump was mentioned?".

Durbin, Democratic leader on the Senate Judiciary Committee, which oversees the Justice Department and the FBI, has set an August 1 deadline for a full response from them. Both agencies have confirmed that they have received the Senator's request.

Some 1,000 agents were mobilized to examine over 100,000 documents, according to multiple sources,  ThNBC News report. Senator Durbin then explicitly asks: "What happened to the records mentioning President Trump once they were flagged?".
