Actor Anthony Geary dead at 78

General Hospital star Anthony Geary has died, ABC confirmed.

Geary was best known for portraying Luke Spencer on the long-running soap opera.

He succeeded in bringing to life one of the most iconic characters in television history, a role that earned him no fewer than seven Daytime Emmy Awards.

He was 78 years old.

Rob Reiner, an American actor, director, producer, and writer whose career has spanned more than five décades, has died, TMZ reports. 

He first rose to fame as an actor playing Meathead in the classic sitcom All in the Family, before establishing himself as one of Hollywood’s most respected directors.

Reiner helmed a string of iconic films, including This Is Spinal Tap, The Princess Bride, Stand by Me, When Harry Met Sally, Misery and A Few Good Men, showcasing remarkable versatility across comedy, drama, and romance.

His work has left a lasting impact on popular culture and modern filmmaking.

He was 78. 

Actor Peter Greene has died. Greene played in the 1994 Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction, and he was known for the role of villain in the Jim Carrey movie The Mask, also in 1994.

Greene also had roles in The Usual Suspects and Training Day, among others.

He was found dead with injuries at his New York apartment, after a call for a wellness check by a neighbor.

He was 60 years old. 

Jubilant Sykes, a Grammy-nominated American baritone singer celebrated for his rich, versatile voice and dynamic stage presence, was stabbed to death at his residence, police reports.

Known for blending opera, gospel, jazz and other musical influences, he performed at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including the Metropolitan Opera, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center, and collaborated with leading conductors and artists throughout his career.

Sykes earned a Grammy nomination in 2009 for his performance in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, showcasing his ability to bridge classical and contemporary styles.

He was 71.

Jeff Garcia, an American actor, stand-up comedian, and beloved voice artist whose work left a lasting mark on animation and comedy, has died. He began his career in the early 1990s as a stand-up comic in Southern California before transitioning into acting and voice work.

Garcia became best known for voicing Sheen Estevez in the Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius film and its related series The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius and Planet Sheen, roles that made him a familiar voice to a generation of viewers.

He also lent his voice to characters in Barnyard, Happy Feet, Rio and other animated projects, showcasing his range and comedic timing. In addition to his animation work, Garcia appeared in guest live-action roles and continued to perform stand-up throughout his career.

He was hospitalized for a pneumonia, Us Weekly reports, where he died.

He was 50 years old.

Sophie Kinsella, real name Madeleine Wickham, the bestselling British novelist world-famous for her comedic, warm, and sharply observed fiction, has died.

She is best known for her hugely successful Shopaholic series, which follows the misadventures of Becky Bloomwood — a charming, financially chaotic heroine whose relatability helped define a generation of chick lit readers.

Before adopting her pen name, Kinsella published several novels under Madeleine Wickham, but it was Confessions of a Shopaholic (2000) that propelled her to international fame.

The book sparked a long-running franchise, translated into numerous languages and adapted into a 2009 feature film starring Isla Fisher.

She was 55.

Criscilla Anderson, dancer, choreographer, and reality TV star, has died, according to reports, including from EW. 

Anderson worked as a choreographer for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders squad and appeared in the 2024 Netflix docuseries America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

A great hip-hop dancer, she performed with artists such as Britney Spears and Rihanna, among others.

She married country musician Coffey Anderson in 2009, and the couple had three children. Criscilla was also the mother of a daughter from a previous relationship.

The family was featured in the 2020 Netflix series Country Ever After, which chronicled Criscilla’s journey following her 2018 colon cancer diagnosis.

She was 45 years old.

NASCAR XFinity Series winner Michael Annett has died.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Annett family with the passing of our friend Michael Annett. Michael was a key member of JRM from 2017 until he retired in 2021 and was an important part in turning us into the four-car organization we remain today,” JR Motorsports wrote on  Instagram.

He was 39.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, an iconic Japanese-born American actor, has died. Widely recognized for his intense portrayals of memorable villains, he first shot to international fame with his role in The Last Emperor.

He went on to appear in many major productions, including Licence to Kill (James Bond, 1989), Mortal Kombat (1995), Pearl Harbor (2001), Rising Sun (1993), Planet of the Apes (2001), Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), and Tekken (2009).

Tagawa also found success on television, with roles in series such as The Man in the High Castle and Lost in Space.

He was 75 years old.

Daniel Woodrell, acclaimed American novelist best known for his dark, a style he famously dubbed “country noir”, has died.

He wrote nine novels and a collection of short stories, including Give Us a Kiss, Tomato Red, and especially Winter’s Bone, which brought him international recognition after its acclaimed 2010 film adaptation starring Jennifer Lawrence.

A former Marine and Iowa Writers’ Workshop graduate, he spent much of his life in West Plains, Missouri, drawing deeply from the region he loved.

He was 72 years old.

Rapper Poorstacy (Carlito Junior Milfort) has died in Boca Raton, Florida, following an “incident” whose nature has not been disclosed, authorities confirmed.

According to TMZ, the rapper had checked into a hotel in the city, where he stayed for several days before being taken to the hospital after a medical emergency.

Several collaborators, including Travis Barker, have paid tribute to him.

He was 26.

Tom Stoppard was one of the most celebrated playwrights of his generation. Over his long career, he wrote many celebrated plays including Arcadia, The Coast of Utopia trilogy, Travesties, The Real Thing and Leopoldstadt.

He won an Academy Award for co-writing the screenplay of the film Shakespeare in Love, and contributed to acclaimed films such as Brazil and Empire of the Sun.

He was 88.

Jellybean Johnson — born Garry George Johnson — cornerstone of the Minneapolis funk-rock scene and a founding member of the band The Time, closely associated with Prince, has died.

Originally from Chicago but raised in Minneapolis from his early teens, Hhis unique blend of funk, rock, soul, and R&B helped define the so-called “Minneapolis Sound,” and his energetic rhythm work became the backbone of The Time.

Over the years, he contributed not only as a drummer and guitarist, but also as a songwriter and producer — collaborating with major artists such as Janet Jackson and Alexander O’Neal, and helping produce hits that shaped the trajectory of 1980s and ’90s R&B and funk.

Jellybean Johnson was 69 years old.

John Eimen began his career as a child actor in the late 1950s after being discovered by a talent agent in Los Angeles. He made his television breakthrough in 1957 with Leave It to Beaver.

Throughout the 1960s, he appeared in many classic TV shows — including The Twilight Zone, McKeever and the Colonel and Petticoat Junction. He passed away after a battle with prostate cancer.

He was 76.

Gary 'Mani' Mounfield, a major British bassist best known for his work with The Stone Roses and Primal Scream, has died.

He joined the Stone Roses in 1987 and played a key role in shaping the iconic “Madchester” rock sound, notably on the band’s landmark 1989 album. After the group disbanded in 1996, he continued his career with Primal Scream before reuniting with the Roses during their comeback from 2011 to 2017.

His playing influenced countless musicians and helped define the identity of British rock.

He was 63.

Colleen Jones, legendary Canadian curling champion, has died. She quickly established herself as one of the most formidable skips on the ice, while also winning over audiences with her on-air personality on CBC.

Her career was recognized in 2016 with her induction into the Canada Sports Hall of Fame, honoring her exceptional contributions to both sport and broadcasting.

Her son confirmed the news of her passing, revealing that she had been battling cancer for the past three years.

She was 65 years old.

Udo Kier, German actor known for his remarkable range and instantly recognizable style, has died.

He first made a name for himself in the 1970s with cult films such as Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula, produced by Andy Warhol and directed by Paul Morrissey, which propelled him into pop culture.

He later worked with filmmakers such as Lars von Trier, Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Werner Herzog and Gus Van Sant, often portraying eccentric, provocative or unconventional characters.

Udo Kier was 81 years old.

Jimmy Cliff, born in Jamaica and an icon of reggae, ska, and rocksteady, has died. From his teenage years, he made a name for himself on the Jamaican music scene, notably with the track Hurricane Hattie, and helped bring reggae to audiences across the world.

His body of work includes classics such as Many Rivers to Cross, You Can Get It If You Really Want, and I Can See Clearly Now, songs that have endured across generations.

According to his family, Jimmy Cliff died following a convulsive episode and subsequent pneumonia.

He was 81 years old.

Spencer Lofranco, a Canadian actor known for his roles in films such as Unbroken (2014), Jamesy Boy (2014) and Gotti (2018), has died. He studied acting at the New York Film Academy and appeared in a total of seven films between 2013 and 2018. His sudden passing in British Columbia triggered an investigation. He was 33.

Dan McGrath, a successful writer for major shows such as The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, and King of the Hill, has died.

Born in Brooklyn, McGrath studied at Harvard University, where he became vice president of the famed humor magazine The Harvard Lampoon.

Alongside figures such as Conan O’Brien, John Belushi, and Greg Daniels, McGrath became one of the best in his profession.

He won an Emmy for his work on The Simpsons.

He was 61.

The famous Kessler twins have died together. Alice and Ellen Kessler ended their lives through medical assistance, and "left together, just as they lived", People reports.

The German stars, who reached international fame for their post-war entertainment in the 50s and 60s, were 89. 

Paige Greco was an exceptional Australian Paralympic cyclist. Born with cerebral palsy, she first competed in para-athletics before turning to cycling in 2018. She became world champion in the C3 individual pursuit in 2019, then won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with a new world record in the 3,000 m C1-3 event.

She also collected medals in time trials and road events, becoming one of the leading figures in international para-cycling. Her sudden death deeply shocked the worlds of sport and athletics.

Paige Greco was 28 years old.

Todd Snider, alt-country singer and songwriter, has died, after suffering injuries and spending some time at the hospital.

The singer's team shared a statement to Snider's social media accounts, announcing his death just weeks after he sustained “severe injuries” in an alleged assault.

Then, his family shared that he had been diagnosed with walking pneumonia after he began having trouble breathing upon his return from the hospital.

He was 59. 

Jim Avila, well-knowned correspondent who covered several major trials in a career that spanned decades, died at his home in San Diego after a long illness.

His death was announced in a statement by ABC News.

He was 70.

She rose to prominence with her Tony Award-winning role as Linda Loman in the Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman in 1999, a performance that earned critical acclaim and praise from playwright Arthur Miller himself. Over her prolific career, she also appeared in numerous films and TV shows such as Gilmore Girls, Sabrina and Christmas with the Kranks, and earned several additional Tony nominations.  She was 84.

Cleto Escobedo III was a beloved musician and bandleader, best known for leading the house band Cleto and the Cletones on the late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its debut in 2003, and for his long-standing friendship with host Jimmy Kimmel that dated back to their childhood in Las Vegas. For over two decades, Escobedo’s saxophone, humour and presence were staple elements of the show. He was 59 years old.

Larry Brooks, a veteran sports journalist noted for his decades-long coverage of the NHL and the New York Rangers for the New York Post, has died after a short battle with cancer. He was widely regarded as one of the defining voices of hockey journalism in the United States, known for his sharp insight, relentless work ethic, and tenure that made him a trusted figure among players, coaches, and readers alike. He was 75.

Sally Kirkland, acclaimed American actress, has died. She rose to fame for her remarkable performance in the film Anna (1987), which earned her a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination. Throughout her career, Kirkland appeared in more than 250 film and television productions, including Charlie’s Angels, Criminal Minds, Roseanne, Head Case, The Way We Were, JFK, and Bruce Almighty. She was 84.

Lenny Wilkens, a towering figure in basketball, known both for his sharp playmaking as a nine-time NBA All-Star point guard and for his historical achievements as a coach, has died. He became one of the few people inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player (1989) and a coach (1998). In 1979, he led the Seattle SuperSonics to their only NBA championship, and upon retiring he held the record for most coaching wins in league history. Marshawn Kneeland, a promising young defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, tragically passed away. A standout at Western Michigan University, he was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and had already begun making an impact in the league—most recently scoring his first NFL touchdown. His sudden death has left the football community in deep mourning. He was 24 years old.

He was 72 years old.

Floyd Roger Myers Jr., former American child actor, has died at his home in Maryland of a heart attack, after having suffered several previous cardiac incidents in recent years. He first gained recognition for portraying young Will Smith in the iconic series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1992) and later played young Marlon Jackson in the miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream that same year. After stepping away from acting, he co-founded a men’s support organization called The Fellaship Men’s Group and was the father of four children. He was 42 years old.

Nick Mangold, former star center for the New York Jets, has died after a long battle with chronic kidney disease diagnosed in 2006, sources report. He publicly sought a kidney donor just weeks before his death. A first-round pick in 2006, Mangold spent his entire 11-season NFL career with the Jets, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and two All-Pro honors. He was 41.

June Lockhart, best known for her iconic roles in Lassie and Lost in Space, has died at her home in California, Variety reports.

A beloved mother figure of American television’s golden age, she rose to fame as Ruth Martin in Lassie (1958–1964) and later as Maureen Robinson in Lost in Space (1965–1968).

Her career spanned decades and genres.

She was 100 years old.

'9-1-1: Nashville' star and up and coming actress Isabelle Tate has died, confirmed her agency. She was suffering from a "rare form of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease", according to her agency, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Isabelle Tate was 23 years old.

Dave Ball, keyboardist and co-founder of the British duo Soft Cell, has died. A key figure of the synth-pop movement, he helped shape the band’s signature sound with iconic tracks like Tainted Love and Say Hello, Wave Goodbye. He also enjoyed a successful career with The Grid and as a producer. Dave Ball was 66 years old.

Sam Rivers, co-founding bassist of the American band Limp Bizkit, has died. Known for his powerful, groove-driven bass lines that helped define the band’s nu-metal sound, Rivers was part of its rise to global fame with albums such as Significant Other and Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. Ace Frehley, founding member of the legendary rock band KISS, has died at the age of 74, reports TMZ. The musician is said to have passed away after being hospitalized following a brain hemorrhage.

The first original member of KISS to pass away, Frehley officially left the band in 2002 after contributing to several of its greatest hits, including Rock and Roll All Nite, which became a worldwide rock anthem.

Known for his inimitable guitar style, he leaves behind a vast musical legacy, having influenced generations of fans around the world.

Singer D'Angelo has died after a battle with cancer, TMZ and CNN report.

"The shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life," his family said in a statement provided to CNN by RCA.

D'Angelo, real name Michael Archer, collaborated with many, like Jay-Z and Snoop Dog, after breaking out in 1995 with his solo album, Brown Sugar. He was 51.

Actress Diane Keaton has died, People reports. She established a unique style, blending humor, sensitivity, and independence of spirit. Rising to fame in the 1970s, she collaborated with iconic filmmakers such as Francis Ford Coppola and Nancy Meyers. Her performance in Annie Hall (1977) earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress and defined a generation. She is also remembered for her roles in The Godfather, Reds, Something’s Gotta Give, and Book Club, where she continued to embody timeless elegance and disarming humor. Joshua Allen, winner of Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance, tragically died after being struck by a train, his family confirmed. He was 36.

Spanish actress Verónica Echegui, known for her leading role in Love You to Death, died at Madrid’s 12 de Octubre Hospital after a private battle with cancer. She was 42 years old.

Jerry Adler, the veteran actor best known for his role as Herman 'Hesh' Rabkin on The Sopranos, died in New York City. After decades working behind the scenes in Broadway theater, he only began his on-screen acting career in his 60s, later earning recurring roles in The Good Wife, Rescue Me and more. He was 96 years old.

Sonny Curtis, American singer-songwriter and longtime member of The Crickets, died in Nashville following complications from pneumonia. Curtis was perhaps best known for writing the song I Fought the Law, made famous by The Crickets and later covered by many artists, and the theme song Love Is All Around for The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He had joined The Crickets after Buddy Holly’s death in 1959, taking on a leading role both as vocalist and guitarist, and continued to contribute to rock, country, and pop music across decades. He was 88.

Jane Goodall, primatologist and globally renowned environmental advocate, has passed away while traveling in California, her institute announced. A pioneer in chimpanzee research since the 1960s in Tanzania, she left a lasting mark on science and environmental awareness. She was 91 years old.

Tragedy struck the country music world with the death of Nashville-based songwriter and producer Brett James in a tragic plane crash. He wrote several hits, including Jesus, Take the Wheel for Carrie Underwood, which earned him a Grammy, as well as When the Sun Goes Down and several others for Martina McBride, Kenny Chesney, and Dierks Bentley, among others. He was 57.

It is with great sadness that the hockey world learned of the passing of Bernard “Bernie” Parent, legendary NHL goaltender for the Flyers. Born in Montreal, Parent made sports history in Philadelphia. During the 1973-74 and 1974-75 seasons, he not only won back-to-back Stanley Cups, but he was also twice awarded the Vezina Trophy and the Conn Smythe Trophy. Bernard Parent was 80 years old.

The boxing world is in mourning following the news of the death of Richard “Ricky” Hatton, known as The Hitman. He died at his home in Hyde, Greater Manchester. Authorities say his death is not being treated as suspicious. He was 46 years old.

Robert Redford, iconic actor, director and star of cinema classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid or All the President’s Men, to name a few, has died. He was also one of the founders of the Sundance Film Festival and a true film lover. He died at his home in Utah, CNN reports, according to his publicist. Robert Redford was 89.

American Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk has been shot while speaking at an event at a Utah College. Sadly, the right wing speaker and influencer had died, CNN confirmed. Charlie Kirk was 31. 

Rick Davies, co-founder of Supertramp, has died. The musician co-wrote several of the pop-rock band's greatest hits, including Goodbye Stranger, Breakfast in America, and Bloody Well Right. Davies, singer and keyboardist for Supertramp, died at his home on Long Island. He was 81.

Ken Dryden, the legendary Montreal Canadiens goaltender who led the 1970 dynasty to six Stanley Cups, has died at the age of 78 after a battle with cancer, the Montreal Canadiens confirmed in a statement. 

Italian designer Giorgio Armani has died, AFP reports. His death was confirmed by his family in a statement. The international fashion icon was 91 years old.

Graham Greene, from the Six Nations of Grand River in Ontario, was a staple on fans' screens for years. In 1990, for his work on Dances with Wolves alongside Kevin Costner, he earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. He was in many films and TV projects, such as the Twilight saga and Green Mile, among others. Graham Greene was 73.

British actor Terence Stamp has died, his family confirmed, according to Reuters. Stamp first rose to prominence in the 1962 film Billy Budd, which earned him an Academy Award nomination. He went on to star in numerous films, including Far From the Madding Crowd and Ken Loach's feature directorial debut. Stamp then played General Zod opposite Christopher Reeve in the 1978 film Superman. He reprised the role in the sequel two years later. More than two decades later, Stamp voiced Superman's father in the television series Smallville. Stamp had numerous other role credits, including in Wall Street. He was 87.

Famed astronaut Jim Lovell, who commanded the Apollo 13 mission and was forced to abandon his attempt to land on the Moon in 1970, has died, NASA has confirmed. Lovell, whose courage was praised worldwide and by his peers on the mission that made him famous, later made history again when he was portrayed in the 1995 film Apollo 13 by Tom Hanks, under the direction of Ron Howard. Jim Lovell was 97.

Kelley Mack died after suffering from serious health problems. She was battling a glioma, a tumor that forms in the brain or spinal cord, according to TMZ. The young actress, who had been working since childhood, was known for her role as Addy in season 9 of The Walking Dead, as well as for her numerous television and film appearances, including Chicago Med and 9-1-1. Kelley Mack was 33 years old.

Loni Anderson, a popular actress from the 1980s and star of hit television show WKRP in Cincinnati, has died in Los Angeles. Anderson was also the ex-wife of actor Burt Reynolds, as both were 80's icons. "We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother," Anderson's family said in a statement. Loni Anderson was 79.

American singer Connie Francis, known for hits like "Who's Sorry Now?" and "Stupid Cupid," has passed away, according to a report by TMZ. Her death was confirmed by her agent, Ron Roberts, who shared the news on Facebook. She was a prominent figure on the pop music scene in the 1960s, achieving international success, selling millions of records, and recording in multiple languages. Recently, her song "Pretty Little Baby" experienced a resurgence in popularity after going viral on TikTok. Connie Francis was 87 years old.

Former WWE superstar Terry 'Hulk Hogan' Bollea has died. TMZ confirmed the news. The legendary wrestler was 71.

Ozzy Osbourne, founding member of Black Sabbath, has died at the age of 76, his family announced in a statement. He rose to prominence with the band in the 1970s, a decade during which he earned the nickname "The Prince of Darkness." Following his departure from the band, Ozzy was picked up by Sharon, who would become his manager and wife. A prolific solo career ensued, including 13 albums. Ozzy also starred with his family on The Osbournes, a pioneering reality TV show on MTV.

Actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner died during a family vacation. Sources say he drowned. TMZ was first to report the death of the former 'Cosby Show' star. Warner and his family were in Costa Rica at the time of the tragedy. Malcolm-Jamal Warner was 54.

Actor Julian McMahon, best known for his role as Dr. Christian Troy on the hit series Nip/Tuck, a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination, has died after a battle with cancer. His wife confirmed the sad news to Deadline. He also starred in projects such as Charmed, FBI: Most Wanted, and The Fantastic Four. McMahon was 56.

Actor Michael Madsen, known for starring in several hit films by director Quentin Tarantino, among others, including Kill Bill and Reservoir Dogs, has died, according to multiple sources. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Madsen was found unconscious at his Malibu residence by police officers responding to a 911 call. He was 67.

Liverpool FC star Diogo Jota died after his Lamborghini crashed in northern Spain, two weeks after his wedding. The Portuguese player was with his younger brother, Andre Silva, who also died in the crash. Diogo Jota was 28 years old.
