Christy Walton draws the ire of the Trump camp
One of Walmart's heiresses, billionaire Christy Walton, has drawn the ire of the Trump camp and its supporters by calling on Americans to take part in the vast protests of the "No Kings" movement.
The warning
A message appeared in a full-page ad in the New York Times, where she issued a strong warning to Donald Trump in anticipation of the protests.
The military parade
These anti-Trump protests, which took place in all 50 states, were scheduled to take place on the same day as the big military parade organized by the Trump administration to celebrate the army's 250th anniversary, on June 14, a date that also coincided with Donald Trump's birthday.
Walton's message was clear
In the ad, Walton's message was clear:
"We are the people of the United States of America. The honor, dignity, and integrity of our country are not for sale."
To conclude: "Our government is of the people, by the people, for the people"
Tensions
As tensions between Walmart and Trump intensified in recent months, the administration imposed tariffs that prompted Walmart to announce an inevitable price hike due to decisions made from the Oval Office.
Furious, Trump had reacted on Truth Social by threatening the company with the words "EAT THE TARIFFS" and "I’ll be watching" while Joe Pennington, director of Walmart's global press office, quickly clarified to Forbes that the ad paid for by Christy Walton was not "endorsed by Walmart".
Right in the middle of the hostilities
Despite this, calls for a boycott of Walmart quickly emerged on social networks, particularly on X, where many people sharply challenged Christy Walton and the company itself.
This mobilization also provoked reactions in Trump's entourage, notably from Roger Stone, Representative Anna Paulina Luna (Republican from Florida) and White House Special Advisor Kari Lake.
There are, of course, positive reactions on the other side, and whether Walmart likes it or not, the Waltons' company finds itself in the middle of the hostilities.
"In America, we don't do kings"
Whether MAGA supporters like it or not, these massive demonstrations, with over 1,800 protests planned across every state, sent an unequivocal message to Donald Trump, in rejection of several controversial policies since his return to power. As the official event webpage states: "In America, we don't do kings".
