Marie-Philip Poulin, Lane Hutson and Jacob Fowler present Bauer’s FLYLITE

We always love to see professional players showcase what’s new in the world of hockey equipment, and this time fans of the Canadiens and the Montreal Victory got their money’s worth. Marie-Philip Poulin, Lane Hutson and Jacob Fowler showcased Bauer’s new FLYLITE gear in a video posted on the equipment manufacturer’s Instagram account

What’s really cool is that Marie-Philip Poulin was paired with Patrick Kane to show off some new skates.We love seeing a great homegrown player in the company of an NHL legend.As mentioned earlier, Lane Hutson and Jacob Fowler were also part of the video. For his part, Fowler was able to judge the new FLYLITE goalie stick, which he described as “light”. Hutson appeared twice in the video and, true to form, he looked embarrassed and had few words to describe the equipment [content-ads] In his two appearances in the video, Hutson described the equipment as “cool”. That’s it!And of course, all accompanied by his classic little embarrassed smile.

Several other NHL players made an appearance in this video, as well as a few players from the LPHF. Bauer is the official outfitter of the LPHF, so it’s fun to see Poulin headlining the equipment presentation of a big company like Bauer, and Canadiens fans will be happy to see Fowler and Hutson make several appearances for the brand in the coming years. Michael Hage: winger on ÉCJ’s third line, as predicted by Craig Button

Michael Hage didn’t get a chance to play for Canada at the last World Junior Championship. Hage was Canada’s top scorer with four goals and one assist in four games, a performance that will certainly earn him a place on Team Canada this year. Despite his superb results, we can‘t expect him to be a cornerstone of Canada’s World Junior team.

The good news is that Hage is part of that line-up. The worst part is that he wouldn’t even be at center on this line. What would prevent Hage from having a better position is the amount of talent that’s on this team with him. Here’s what Craig Button’s prediction would look like for the top two trios

  • Gavin McKenna – Roger McQueen – Porter Martone
  • Michael Misa – Berkly Catton – Beckett Sennecke

Hage starts late against these players, because they’re all top-10 draft picks, with the exception of Gavin McKenna, who will obviously be the very first pick in the next NHL auction. Still, it would be interesting to see Hage play alongside Tij Iginla and Caleb Desnoyers on a third line. We’re talking about three players who can play center and who all have good vision of the game [content-ads] And, even if he’s only on the third line, Hage can console himself with the players left out of this list. Jett Luchanko, Cayden Lindstrom and Sacha Boisvert were all passed over by Button, even though they were drafted ahead of Hage in 2024. Hage is the only Canadiens prospect to make Craig Button’s roster. Owen Protz, who participated in the WJSS, was not named by the TSN expert, not even among the players who could possibly join the team. This line-up prediction is not official, but it’s good to see that Michael Hage could finally earn a spot with ÉCJ.

Patrik Laine: “Anyone who bets against me will lose their money”

Patrik Laine has talent. He wasn’t selected 2nd overall in the 2016 draft because he’s good-looking or nice: it’s because he has skills that can help an NHL club on the ice.And we saw that last season in Montreal.

It’s been a difficult year for the Finn at times, though. He arrived here after a somewhat negative situation in Columbus, injured his knee in a pre-season game… and that certainly affected his morale. But the main man’s confidence never went away, either. In the trailer for season 2 of the Canadiens’ rebuild on Crave, the sniper is heard to say… this:

We don’t know at what point in the season he said that. But one thing’s for sure: I (REALLY) like it, seeing Laine be confident.

[content-ads] We know that Laine had mental health problems when he played in Columbus, following the death of his father.

And that’s why it was such a shame to see him hurt at the last training camp, when he was making his official return to the game. But to know that he has confidence in himself is already interesting. And here again, at the risk of repeating myself… Laine has what it takes to be one of the good players in the National League. He’s already been part of the elite, after all, and we’ve seen that he’s capable of having a certain importance on the ice in a role that suits him. It would be great to see him enjoy a big second season in Montreal. And I’m not saying it’s guaranteed… He’s been giving himself a chance since the start of the summer, because he’s been working hard in Brossard. He seems really motivated… and that’s good news for the Canadiens.

Elliotte Friedman: “Sidney Crosby will definitely not be traded this summer.”

Let’s agree on one thing right off the bat: seeing Sidney Crosby end his career somewhere other than Pittsburgh would be… special. It’s just that seeing him wear a uniform other than the Penguins’ that would be odd in a way, but ultimately, this idea refuses to die because of the Penguins’ current situation. Center #2: bad news on Kirby Dach revives debate

This morning, our colleague Maxime Truman broke the news that Kirby Dach is still recovering from his knee injury, which means that his active participation in training camp as a healthy player is in jeopardy. Dach is training in Edmonton this summer, far from Montreal.

There’s a chance Dach won’t be ready to play in October, which is a step back from the predictions at the start of his injury. There’s also a chance he’ll be able to play, but not in a top-6 role. Knee operation: Kirby Dach not yet back on his feet

Two years ago to the day, Canadiens fans were optimistic about Kirby Dach’s future in Montreal: the 6’4 forward had just collected 38 points in 58 games – in his first campaign in Quebec – and many wondered whether Dach had a better chance of establishing himself as a first NHL center than captain Nick Suzuki.

Luka Doncic will make more money in three years than Alex Ovechkin did in 20

As I’ve just written, NHL player salaries are set to rise substantially in the coming years as a result of the salary cap increase. I believe we’ll soon see the first $20 million-plus-a-year contract signed in the National League. That’s a lot of money! However, it’s still a long way from the NBA.

Luka Doncic has just signed a three-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers that will pay him a total of $165 million.

And that’s only the sixth-highest salary in the NBA next season.

As reported by Russian website championat.com, that’s more money than Alex Ovechkin made in his entire career. The Russian field hockey player reportedly made an estimated $161.5 million in 20 years in the National League. And how do you explain this difference in salary? NHL’s best defensive brigades: the Habs rank 5th, according to Thomas Hickey

When the Canadiens made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021, they did so thanks in part to the brilliance of their defensive quartet. Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, Ben Chiarot and Joel Edmundson all played spectacular hockey… and helped the club make it a long way to the playoffs. But then, all those guys left for various reasons. So, for the past four years, the Habs have had to rebuild their blue line… and they’ve done it brilliantly.

Drafting Lane Hutson, trading for Mike Matheson, Alexandre Carrier and Noah Dobson, acquiring Arber Xhekaj and finalizing the development of Kaiden Guhle and Jayden Struble: all these guys make up the Montreal squad today… and David Reinbacher could join them one day.And what we see is that the club really does have a quality squad. Five of these guys are at least top-4 calibre, and Dobson’s arrival solves the problem on the right. And across the NHL, there seems to be a growing recognition of what’s happening in Montreal. Thomas Hickey, a former NHL defenseman who works for NHL Network, has put together his top-5 list of the NHL’s best defensive brigades… and he ranks the Canadiens’ 5th.
