Martin Scorsese Directs the Rolling Stones

On September 21, Shine a Light will be released in North American theatres.  The project will feature images captured during the band’s world tour in the fall of 2006.

The director particularly chose scenes from a concert at New York’s Beacon Theater.  The performances include guest appearances by other artists including Jack White of the band White Stripes, who joins the Stones for the song Loving Cup, and Christina Aguilera who sings Live With Me.  For the song Champagne and Reefer, the Rolling Stones share the stage with guitarist Buddy Guy.

Mike Myers To Be Honoured At MTV Awards

The Canadian star will receive a prize for his entire career.  The man behind Austin Powers will be given the MTV Generation Award.  Previous winners of the award include Tom Cruise (2005) and Jim Carrey (2006).

Myers said, "From performing, to hosting, to winning the desirable golden bucket of popcorn, I’ve accomplished it all at the MTV Movie Awards.  The only thing I had left to do was win the MTV Generation Award and now I’m set. Thank you, MTV."

A Tribute to Sgt. Pepper

Oasis, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, Bryan Adams and The Magic Numbers are among the artists who will record songs from the disc.

The recording was directed by Geoff Emerick, who was the original engineer of the album in 1967.  Some of the same equipment from the Abbey Road studio will be used for the new recordings.

Bryan Adams told the BBC that the disc was one of the most influential records in music history.  He said, "Those songs that they have on that album are beautifully crafted, beautifully recorded and we’ll never get close to that."

Michael Jackson’s Memorabilia Being Sold

The first of the two day auction brought in more than $500,000 in Las Vegas yesterday.

Among the items for sale were a military style jacket, that sold for $24,000.  The MTV Music Award that Jackson earned for the song We Are the World was sold for $16,000.

In total over the two days, more than 1,100 items of clothing and other memorabilia will be sold.  The sale also includes a few items that once belonged to Janet, Jermaine, Tito and LaToya Jackson.

Jennifer Aniston Is In Love

The star of the former television series Friends, who has been single since her split from actor Vince Vaughn in October, was seen in the company of a mysterious new man over the weekend.

People magazine confirms that the 38 year-old actress has been spotted with a man with blonde hair.  The two shared a romantic dinner at the restaurant One Pico in Santa Monica last Saturday, and were holding hands.

A spokesperson for Aniston has not commented on the story.

Beyonce Knowles Pushes Back Motherhood

The BH’Day singer, who is dating rapper Jay-Z, insists that she is too busy to have children now.

During an interview in the French magazine Questions de femmes, the star confirmed that she wants children, but not now.  Knowles said, "Yes, in 10 years. For the moment, there are still so many things I need to accomplish."

A Cell Mate Selected for Paris Hilton

In just a few days, Hilton will begin serving her sentence at a Los Angeles detention centre after being found guilty of driving while her license was suspended.

According to TMZ, authorities have already found a cell mate for the starlet.  The woman has also been incarcerated for driving violations.  The prison staff had been looking for someone to share a cell with Hilton who would not try to benefit financially from spending 23 days with the celebrity.

Jail employees have also started conducting searches for electronic devices and cell phones, so that other inmates can not take photographs of Hilton.

Paris Hilton will begin her sentence on June 5.  She has been ordered to spend 45 days behind bars, but could shorten her stay to 23 days for good behaviour.

Pax Becomes a Jolie-Pitt

The Los Angeles Superior Court announced yesterday morning that the Vietnamese boy now shares the name of his famous parents.

Pax is the fourth child of the couple.  Jolie adopted the boy last March from an orphanage.

Jolie and Pitt are also the parents of Maddox, 5, Zahara, 2, and Shiloh, who is the only biological child of the couple, and will soon turn one.

Rihanna Joins Live Earth

The young American singer will take part in the Tokyo show, sharing the stage with Linkin Park, among others.

For the 19 year-old star, it will be an opportunity for her to share her new songs from the CD Good Girl Gone Bad with her Japanese fans.  The disc is set to be released on June 5.  The first single from the album will be Umbrella, which also features Jay-Z. 

Seven Live Earth concerts will take place simultaneously on July 7.  Several artists will be performing, including Madonna, James Blunt, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Fall Out Boy, AFI, Akon, Kelly Clarkson, Ludacris, the Smashing Pumpkins, The Police, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Roger Waters, Alicia Keys, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, John Mayer, KT Tunstall and Melissa Etheridge.

The concerts are the initiative of former American Vice President Al Gore, who wants to bring attention to global warming.

A Park for Harry Potter

Directly inspired by the adventures of the young sorcerer, the theme park The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open in Florida in 2009.

The author of the Harry Potter books, JK Rowling, is thrilled about the new park.  She told the BBC, "The plans I’ve seen look incredibly exciting, and I don’t think fans of the books or films will be disappointed."

The Harry Potter books have been translated into 65 languages and have sold more than 325 copies.  The final installment of the series will be released on July 21.  In addition to the novels, film adaptations have earned more than $3.5 million.  Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens in theatres on July 13.
